Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation
Game Plot
The war takes place in 2015, on the Anean Continent in areas where Ulysses fragments had impacted in 1999. Three countries have been introduced: Republic of Emmeria and the Federation of Estovakia are the nations at war with one another. The third nation, the Kingdom of Nordennavic has also been revealed, but they do not play any major role in the plot. The player's squadron is a part of the Emmerian Air Force's 28th Tactical Fighter Squadron "Garuda" of the 8th Air Wing. The player's callsign is "Talisman".
The Ulysses Asteroid's fall in 1999 caused damage to the whole continent. Emmeria had managed to sustain itself, but Estovakia collapses into civil war and economic ruin. A military government is established in Estovakia. By 2015, the federation is restored and Estovakia re-enters a short-lived nationwide peace until invading Emmeria in that same year. The Emmerian capital city, Gracemeria, is attacked by surprise by a large and powerful unknown force, later confirmed to be the Estovakian Military. In the initial strike, Estovakian forces destroyed two sections of Kings Bridge. This caused panic among the citizens of the capital and Air Base Command ordered a general evacuation order for all residents of the capital before the Estovakians could take over Gracemeria. Soon after Emmerian capital had fallen into Estovakian hands, Emmerian Forces were pushed east onto the southern tip of Khesed Island. From here, the Emmerian Military begins its battle to retake its homeland. For more information, see our article on The EE War.

Allied Support System
Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation brings a great advancement in the integration of player and CPU actions. In this installment the player will maintain the ability to command aircraft within his unit, as experimented in Ace Combat 2 and defined in Ace Combat 5 and Ace Combat Zero. However, an expansive addition has been made.
The player can also control or "request support" from other Allied forces within the battle area. These Allied forces range from ground vehicles (tanks, APCs, artillery, etc.), aircraft (fighters, bombers, attack helicopters, ECM jamming aircraft etc.) and naval vessels (electronic warfare vessels, destroyers, etc.). In order to request said Allied forces enemy forces must be destroyed by the player, in order to fill up a specified meter. Theoretically, the only factor limiting the types of Allied forces available in every mission is the terrain encountered within the mission.

Dynamic Mission System
The Dynamic Mission System is the newest highly innovative feature for Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. This system allows the player to experience each battle on a different front, while having to deal with different tasks in each battle field. A battle can now be won by completing key objectives such as securing frontline air fields, destroying ammo dumps to halt enemy attacks or supporting bomber operations, for example.
The player can now participate in multiple mini-operations within a single mission. These operations can decide whether or not the player will win or lose a battle. Allied support can be made available and can be sent to these areas to relative tasks for the player (for more information see the AC6IC - Allied Support System). In order to help the player keep track of these operations, the player's radar can be adjusted to only show mission targets from each operation in progress, allowing them to focus on a single area or view the entire battlefield at once. The radar can be toggled by pressing left or right on the XBOX Controller's directional pad.
An example of how this operation would be performed is shown below.

The player has three choices in which their mission could be completed. Above is a flow chart of three possible ways to defeat your enemy.
Path One: As the player enters the conflict, they can accomplish their main objective. For example, the enemy has setup a railroad cannon that is attacking your allies. As you attack the main target, two sub-objectives will develop that will require you to defeat this new threat in the time allotted. Once all of the objectives are completed the mission will be completed.
Path Two: The player also can liberate an enemy airfield and a wing of troops can hold the airfield. The player now has the ability to make in-battle landings to replenish aircraft, including repairs & additional armaments. The player now can defeat the enemy on more fronts then before. Like above the two sub-objectives will develop in order the complete your mission.
Path Three: Now the player has a third option of halting enemy forces that are advancing through a city to attack a retreating allied unit. This will slow down the enemy to make it easier for the player and your allies to destroy the enemy forces. Once the main objective of is completed, the sub-objective will develop, possibly sending reinforcements to supplement the first wave. Once all of the objectives are completed the mission will succeed.

XBOX Live Matches
Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation is the technically not the first installment of the series to have online capability, but is the first game to have widely accessible online play. Ace Combat 6's online play is categorized into four game types. Siege Battles consist of two teams of up to four players each, attempting to destroy specified targets while the opposing team defends those targets against any attacks. Team Battles are team death matches between two teams of up to eight people. Battle Royales are matches which pit up to sixteen players against one another. The final game mode, CO-OP Battle, holds up to four people which act as a team to complete various missions against the CPU. These missions are not directly from the campaign mode, but do take place at locations in Ace Combat 6 and are specially setup for online play with more than one player involved.
Along with online modes, content may be downloaded from XBOX Live Market Place. These items include gamer themes, avatars, trailers, downloadable maps and aircraft paint schemes that change the stats of standard aircraft, giving every downloadable aircraft their own unique characteristics. For more information concerning downloadable content, see the XBL Downloadable Content area.

Mid Mission Landings / Return Line
A new capability to land on front line air bases has also been introduced to the series. If an air base is present during a mission and is under allied control, the player can land on this air base, rather than fly across the Return Line. Though convinent, the player can be attacked as they are approaching the runway, as they are decelerating on the runway or as they are taking off.
The return line function introduced in Ace Combat 04 and utilized in Ace Combat Zero, has made its complete return in Ace Combat 6. Each campaign mission has a return line allowing players to return to an airbase or aircraft carrier, in order to replenish their ammunition and in lower difficulties, repair aircraft damage.

Other Information
High-G: By decreasing and increasing throttle at the same time (pressing the Left trigger + Right trigger) an aircraft can perform a High-G turn. This allows the aircraft to increase their rate of turn, but also decreases air speed at an extremely rapid rate.
Wingman Commands: The player can directly control Garuda 2, Marcus "Shamrock" Lampert with simple attack and defend options, by pressing up and down on the directional pad. This is not the same as Allied Support, explained in a previous section.
XBOX Exclusive: Fires of liberation is the first title in the Ace Combat Series to be an XBOX 360 exclusive.
